Working towards the day there are truly no more homeless pets! HEART is committed to saving the lives of innocent animals
through the rescue of healthy and adoptable shelter animals.
We are privileged to be a Maddie's Fund Project Partner.
Together we are making a difference!
Maddie’s Fund, the Pet Rescue Foundation, is a family foundation established help fund the creation of a no-kill nation where all healthy and treatable shelter dogs and cats are guaranteed a loving home. Dave and Cheryl Duffield created Maddie’s Fund in memory of their beloved Miniature Schnauzer, Maddie. Maddie passed away in 1997, but thanks to this one little dog, abandoned shelter animals have new opportunities to find loving homes in which they, too, may share in the joy and love that Dave and Cheryl enjoyed with Maddie.
The Maddie’s Pet Rescue Project in Erie County is a monumental endeavor by a coalition of animal welfare agencies working to end the euthanasia of healthy and treatable animals. The five-year project began on October 1, 2009. By September of 2014, Erie County will be a community where every healthy or treatable dog or cat is guaranteed a home. Coalition members include:
HEART Animal Rescue & Adoption Team Inc.
Black Dog, Second Chance
City of Buffalo Animal Shelter
Operation PETS Spay Neuter Clinic of WNY Inc.
Second Chance Sheltering Network
SPCA Serving Erie County (lead agency for project)
